Leading the San Francisco Muslim Community Center since 2024, Imam Na'il Shakoor has been a dedicated member of the Imam Warith Deen community since accepting Al-Islam in 1980. He relocated to the Bay Area in 2005 from Mobile, Alabama, where he became a vital part of the SFMCC under the leadership of Imam Abu Qadir Al-Amin. Beginning in 2019, he served as Imam Al-Amin’s assistant, contributing to the center’s operations and long-term planning. With a distinguished 25-year career in public health care before retiring in 2016 and the notable milestone of performing Hajj in 2017, Imam Na'il combines professional expertise with a deep spiritual commitment. He describes the SFMCC as a place “where faith meets action and community truly means everyone.” A devout Muslim, he is also a father, grandfather, and advocate for community empowerment.
Jason Ross Brown is a Muslim leader, author, and the President of the Board of the San Francisco Muslim Community Center. He is also the founder of Raw Human LLC, a nonprofit fundraising consultancy that empowers intergenerational voices within the community. His notable publication, It Is Only Love That Teaches: Disrupting Anti-Blackness and White Supremacy in Education Systems of the United States, explores the resilience of Black youth within American educational institutions and the critical role of family, community, and cultural affirmation in countering systemic bias. By centering love and understanding, Jason's work addresses the transformational power of equity and social justice in education. His insights further reflect his commitment to the values of Islam and the broader goals of community empowerment.
The late Imam Abu Qadir Al-Amin, a lifelong Muslim leader, served as the founding Imam of the San Francisco Muslim Community Center. From its establishment in 1978 until his passing in 2024, he devoted himself to fostering an inclusive and vibrant community grounded in the teachings of Imam Warith Deen Mohammed. Imam Al-Amin’s lifelong commitment to social justice, education, and spiritual guidance created a legacy that continues to inspire all who follow in his path. (Posthumous Tribute)
